Our Story
A family owned and operated business, Dixie Mill was established in 1917 and has been providing the world’s best machine tools, cutting tools and accessories to manufacturers in Louisiana and Mississippi ever since.
Michael E. Cahn, born in Osyka, Mississippi, started the company in 1917 to distribute various supplies for the sugar mills, farms and other industries in the Louisiana and Mississippi areas.
In the 1950s and 1960s our business and interests shifted to distributing cutting tools and machine tools. Since then, Dixie Mill has represented the best cutting tool and machine tool manufacturers in the world. We are proud distributors of Mazak machines and Sandvik Coromant tooling, along with many other world-class products. Our job and mission are to be a high quality resource to the machine shops in our two state territory.
Our Historic Location
Dixie Mill has been located at 901 Tchoupitoulas (chop-i-too-luhs) in downtown New Orleans , Louisiana for over 90 years. In addition to the Dixie Mill business legacy, our location boasts a rich history and local significance.
Our location is in the Historic Warehouse District. This district is the original industrial center of New Orleans with access to the Mississippi River ports and railroad terminals. In 1984, New Orleans hosted the World's Fair. This was the catalyst in the evolution of the Industrial Warehouse District to the diverse area it is now.
